Let me write for those who have just heard of the band and are wondering what the name means. Sudestada (Southeast blow) is the Argentinian name for a climatic phenomenon common to the Río de la Plata (an estuary formed by the combination of the Uruguay River and the Paraná River on the southeastern coastline of South America) and its surrounding region. The phenomenon consists of a sudden rotation of cold southern winds to the south-east. This change, while moderating the cold temperatures, loads the air masses with oceanic humidity, bringing heavy rain and rough seas in the coastal regions.
Svdestada make music that brings to mind Converge in terms of song traffic and dynamism. As they describe themselves, their music has strong post-hardcore and crust/punk influences. There are many bands that produce this kind of hybrid stuff and can generally be considered as Post Metal. However, Svdestada stands out from the others with the exquisite Black Metal attitude in their music.
If we consider the backbone of the album as Black Metal, other factors are used to enrich this main structure. The result is a very successful album that, like Southeast Blow, from which it takes its name, throws the atmosphere into turmoil and exposes the listener to harsh winds.
Since I have just discovered the band, I have not yet been able to listen to their previous 2 albums and compare them with their latest work, but the album is already very successful in its own right. One of the interesting features of the band is that they follow the theme of women in terms of artwork. This situation has not changed in all three album covers. Another different feature is that the lyrics are in Spanish. This adds a different flavor to the music.
After all, it is their 3rd album and they are good at what they are doing. There are totally 7 songs in the album and except the last song which is 11+ minutes, all songs are around 3-4 minutes. They don’t linger long. They appear like bullets coming out of a barrel, do their job and disappear. The work, which pumps adrenaline from start to finish and impresses especially with the wonderful performances of vocalist Mario and drummer Eder, has a melancholic, sad vibe within this state of madness.
I recommend you to give this wonderfully heavy, aggressive and yet melodic album a chance. Because there is good music here.
